• 3.0 out of 5 stars from Amazon Customer -- Obsessed control freak : I really wanted to like this book. It was well written. The character of Eli was very engaging. I just could not get over how toxic the other MC was. Throughout the whole book he keeps secrets, really big ones. Eli's not allowed to keep any. He never lets Eli inside his head, but Eli doesn't have a single moment of privacy. He never explains himself to Eli and is overprotective in the worst way. It never feels like a partnership. It always feels like some aged creep kind of taking advantage and grooming an 18-year-old. It took way too long for the story to actually make sense. We're talking well over 75% into the book before anything comes up besides Eli basically being railroaded by fate into a relationship with someone who's so obsessed with him that they can't even give him two seconds of breathing space without losing their damn mind. I've read some books where this type of relationship is super hot but it just kind of feels shkevy when it's so obviously power imbalanced and the person with all the power never really ever makes any attempt to balance it out. Kept wishing for more because the writing style was engaging but overall ended up skimming the last 25% of the book to find out what the big deal was and still being disappointed. Bummer. The fact that it is about two men is way less important than the facts that the writing is excellent, the characters are well developed and engaging, the book is well edited, there is plenty of humor, and the love story is so cute it had me smiling the whole time I read it. If you haven't ever read a MM love story, this is an excellent one to start with. A well written love story is a well written love story no matter the gender, as love is love, and this is a particularly well written one. I very much enjoyed this book, and look forward to more in the series, and would absolutely love to see these characters again. ( Reviewed in the United States on July 25, 2021 )

I really enjoyed how the supernatural connection was handled—all of the ‘ok this is weird, I don’t need this type of crazy in my life’ without a lot of the overdramatic situations that happen in a lot of mysterious connection stories. Eli is awesome from the start - it’s obvious he had some major trauma and is also unique in certain ways, but he’s a powerhouse full of attitude anyway. Gonna end up being one of my go-to comfort reads. Gawd. It was soooo good. Eli is adorable and Haruka is everything else. I got worried at 90% that this would be a cliffhanger book, but the author wrapped it up nicely. Definitely recommend, and if you’re like me and enjoy reading Yaio, then this book will be even better for you. Love each of the characters Eli was so strong and did not really know it, love how is strength shone throw as the book went on. Haruka he is so protective almost obsessed with protecting Eli it is fantastic they are so good together but got to say Eli does not have good luck when left alone he is a magnet for trouble poor thing.
